Viewlands House is extremely fortunate to have a wonderful team of people working to look after our residents. We place great importance on providing a supportive workplace, ensuring that we pay well, and giving team members opportunities for personal development and progression. As a result, we have a very long-serving team which in turn helps provide continuity and familiarity for our residents.

We value every one of our employees and it is very important to us that our team are well looked after.  Our rates of pay reflect the value we place on our colleagues and we ensure that annual pay reviews take into account cost of living increases. We have committed to paying all employees above the recognised living wage, an hourly rate substantially higher than the national minimum wage.

Management team

Kat PS_edited.jpg
Kat Douglas, Manager

Kat joined the staff as a carer in 2012 having worked in the care sector for 25 years mostly with large corporate group homes. Kat is strongly aware that the residents definitely come first in an independent care home, especially a charity run home like Viewlands House. Kat has steadily progressed her career and qualifications and was rewarded with promotion to Manager in 2021.

Diane PS_edited.jpg
Diane Smith, Deputy Manager

Diane qualified as a nurse 40 years ago. Diane especially enjoyed working with the elderly and the challenges of wound care. She moved from the NHS into working in local care homes where she held various responsibilities for almost 30 years. Diane joined us as a nurse in 2021 and was promoted to Deputy Manager the following year.

Elaine_edited_edited.jpg
Elaine Bloice, Administrator

Elaine first came to Viewlands House as a self-employed bookkeeper on the day the first resident moved in – in 1986. Over the years care home administration has increased greatly, leading to Elaine becoming a permanent staff member. Elaine has clearly enjoyed her job at Viewlands House and has seen many changes and improvements in the facilities.

Louise Simpson, Admin Assistant

Louise joined the team in the summer of 2022 and has quickly become a valuable member of the team. Louise has previously worked as the administrator in the hospitality industry and so brings lots of people skills to her job at Viewlands House.

Meet our Chair

Alastair Barn, Chair

I was appointed Chair of the Trustees in November 2021 and it’s a pleasure and a privilege to be a part of the Abbeyfield Viewlands House team.

It is very uplifting every time I come into the House to witness, first hand, the high level of care and dedication of our staff in the care of our Residents.
