Are there any restrictions on what personal items and furniture a resident may bring with them?All furniture must comply with current fire regulations. You may have your own paintings and photos hung in your room. Please ensure all your clothing is marked with your name as our laundry caters for all our residents.

What is included in fees?Residential or nursing care, all meals, heat & light, and laundry.

When may I visit my loved one in Viewlands House?Family and friends may visit at any time.

What is your resident to staff ratio?Our resident to staff ratio varies according to the needs of the residents in the home at the time. This is checked by our manager using the Indicator of Relative Need (ioRN) dependency tool to ensure that the needs of all residents are met every day.

Will you be able to support my loved one if their needs become more complex?Viewlands House is equipped and staffed to provide nurse-directed care as required so in most cases, a resident can continue to stay in Viewlands House.

Can you support residents with dementia?We are not a designated dementia unit but we can support residents whose dementia is mild.

Do you arrange excursions for residents?We arrange trips by either minibus or private car to local garden centres, tea rooms and gardens. Most of these trips are in the summer months, but there also short trips in December to see the Christmas lights and the decorations in Dobbies, or Glendoick Garden Centre.

What entertainment is provided for residents?We have a dedicated activities organiser who plans a weekly list of activities e.g. exercises, crafting, skittles, curling, mini-golf, bingo, quizzes and wordsearch to name but a few. We also aim to have a visiting entertainer once a month or so as well as a visiting pantomime around Christmas time.

What food options are available for residents?Breakfast is generally served in your own room, but residents are encouraged to come to the dining rooms for their main meals. A three-course lunch is served each day with a lighter meal in the evening. We can cater for special dietary requirements. Our chefs provide a wide variety of dishes, with occasional special meals featuring the option of cuisines from different countries.

Where can I see your Care Inspectorate Report?This is always on display on our notice board in the hallway. A copy can be viewed directly on the Care Inspectorate website here.

Can residents freely come and go from Viewlands House?Of course, residents are encouraged to continue with any clubs and activities previously enjoyed.

Can residents accompany friends and family on trips away from Viewlands House?Yes, we have often had residents go on trips away for events such as family weddings or at Christmas. We have even had a resident go off to visit her son in Malaysia for a month!

Can guests stay overnight?We can’t accommodate overnight visitors, but family and friends may join a resident for lunch and/or the evening meal in either the conservatory or the upper lounge for a modest charge. Are there any additional costs on top of the basic fees?Hairdressing, newspapers, telephone, trolley shop purchases are an example of additional costs. There is occasionally a nominal charge for trips.

Is there parking at Viewlands House?Yes, there are two car parks on either side of the House.

How independent are Viewlands House residents?This varies from being very independent and still driving, to requiring 24-hour nursing care.

Can residents manage their own affairs?Residents should be able to manage their own affairs or have a Power of Attorney in place. The staff at Viewlands House will not get involved with a resident’s finances.

How does Viewlands House support people of faith?We are pleased to hold services led by faith groups in Viewlands House. Residents can also continue to go to their own place of worship.

What is the Viewlands House policy on smoking?Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the house.

How can I support Viewlands House?We run a fundraising summer fete to which friends, family and local community members are cordially invited. Many families also choose to remember their loved ones by making a donation to Viewlands House. If you’d rather support by providing practical help, we welcome new Friends of Viewlands House, and from time to time we have vacancies on our Board of Trustees. What services are included?Bield alarm call system, repairs to the property, window cleaning, gardening. Tenants are welcome to tend to their own garden area.
